How search works
What search actually searches, why multi-word queries work as AND, how keyword hierarchies affect results — and what to do when nothing is found.
Where you search determines what you find
footage.one has several search scopes:
- Global search (search field in the top bar) — searches all your media, albums and events.
- Search within an album or event (search field above the media list) — searches only the contents of the opened album or event.
If the opened album does not turn up what you expect, use the global search: it covers your entire library, regardless of where an item is filed.
Multiple words = all words must match
A search for dog shadow finds media matching both terms (AND logic) — not all media containing either term.
Keywords work through their hierarchy
Keywords are organised in a hierarchy (see Keywords). Search uses this structure: a search term also matches media keyworded with related or parent terms. This makes search more powerful, but it can also produce results that do not obviously contain your search term — the medium is then connected to the term through the hierarchy.
"No assets found" — checklist
- Are you searching in the right place? The field above the media list stays within the opened album or event. For your entire library, use the global search in the top bar.
- Freshly imported? New media only appear in search results once they have been made searchable — wait briefly and search again.
- Back to the full view: Clear the search field (X in the field) to see all album contents again.
