Keyword icons — What each symbol means

Every keyword chip shows a small icon. Learn what each symbol means and which keyword category it stands for.

Overview

Every keyword chip in footage.one shows a small icon in front of the label. That icon is not decoration — it tells you which category the keyword belongs to in the footage.one taxonomy (is "Mountain" a place, an object, or an activity?). This page explains what each icon means.

Keyword categories and their icons

Icon Category What it means Example
Person running Activity An action or activity taking place in the shot. "Sailing"
Colour palette Colour The colour described by the keyword. "Colour"
Globe Geography A country or larger geographic region. "Ireland"
Location pin Location A specific place, landmark or type of terrain. "Mountain"
Cube Object A physical object or thing visible in the shot. "Sailboat"
Sitemap (small tree) Taxonomy A broader classification term — a type or class of thing, rather than one specific instance.
Gear Technical A production or technical term: camera angle, shot type, format, resolution. "Aufsicht" (bird's-eye shot)
Clock Time of day The time of day shown in the shot. "Sunset"

A keyword can belong to more than one category. When it does, the chip only shows the icon for the first category.

No icon looks right? The keyword just has no category yet

If a keyword has not been assigned to any category in the taxonomy, footage.one shows a plain tag icon instead. That is not a category of its own — it simply means nobody has categorised this keyword yet. Older keywords such as year numbers ("2011") or technical specifications that were added before categories existed often still show this generic tag icon.

Other symbols on a keyword chip

Besides the category icon, a few other symbols can show up on a chip:

  • Warning triangle — this is a Tag, not a Keyword: a term typed freely (by you or a colleague) that does not yet match an entry in the footage.one taxonomy. See Keywords for the difference between Keywords and Tags.
  • Checkmark — shown on an AI suggestion that has already been added to the asset.
  • Link symbol — the keyword was not assigned directly to this asset, but inherited from its event or album.
  • Coloured circle instead of an icon — an automatically detected dominant colour, shown as a colour swatch rather than the colour-palette icon.
