Organising media

Structure your media library with episodes and albums.

Organisational structure

footage.one gives you two central levels of organisation:

Episodes (Events)

Episodes are the primary structure for importing media. When you upload, assets are grouped into an episode. An episode is automatically created when you import a folder — the directory name becomes the episode name.

Episodes go through three states:

  • New — freshly created, ready for import
  • Importing — media is being imported and processed
  • Complete — import finished, media is ready

Episodes are especially well suited for grouping by shooting day, location, production unit or time period.

Albums

Albums are flexible thematic collections. Unlike episodes, albums can contain assets from different episodes. Albums can also be nested hierarchically — an album can contain further albums.

Albums are particularly useful for:

  • Curated selections for clients
  • Thematic portfolios and highlights
  • Preparing approvals and distributions

Tagging at the organisational level

Keywords can be assigned not just to individual assets but also to episodes and albums. Keywords at episode level apply to all contained assets — this saves an enormous amount of time when tagging large collections.

Tips

  • Pre-sort before importing — sort your media by topic, location or time period before importing
  • Tag at episode level — assign shared keywords at episode level first, then refine individual assets
  • Albums for approvals — approvals and distributions are based on albums, not episodes
